Nina is something I’ve been hearing about since late last year… a new perspective on sharing independent music in a post-platform era of web3.

It’s kind of NFT but uses Solana instead of Ethereum, and also arweave which stores it’s content in a ‘permanent’ way… (I have learned the hard way that it’s no liable to trust private companies to store your data… like when myspace lost every song on their older catalog)

I think we are all kind of traumatized by all the NFT buzz there has been since last year but despite all of that I have faith in the decentralized aims of web3…

My new song is called ascetic redux. Assembled on recordings of my early norns explorations. hope u like it

on 17.02.21 i wrote:

I have a huge brick-like pile of drawings and sketches that I’ve been collecting for the past semester of so, since I took a break form using my iPad as my main drawing tool.

Last week i gathered with a friend because she wanted a drawing of mine. We drank tee, talked and looked at this scribbles for nearly 5 hours and didn’t even finished looking at them all.. There are indeed a LOT of drawings.

I mean, the point in this post is to release a feeling I’m holding right now… I could publish them on instagram, yeah sure, each by each, but why?… Why share at all? Make them public so I can grow my “audience” somehow (?), to receive likes from the same 5 people who are aware and care of what I do (?) (don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a lot their support).

_“The novice says to the master, ‘What does one do before enlightenment?’
‘Chop wood. Carry water,’ replies the master.
The novice asks, ‘What, then, does one do after enlightenment?’
‘Chop wood. Carry water.’”

“My daily activities are not unusual,
I’m just naturally in harmony with them.
Grasping nothing, discarding nothing.
In every place there’s no hindrance, no conflict.
My supernatural power and marvelous activity:
Drawing water and chopping wood.”

“How miraculous and wondrous,
Hauling water and carrying firewood!”_

˜˜˜˜˜˜˜

To be done project arose from those desperate lines.
Eager to find, to learn and to connect with my already favorite fellows on earth.
Would I ever tell them I love them?
in that heater of a land, two fortunate souls together
bothered to hell,
and bored
yet making myself
feeling
so full

I’ve been thinking a lot about this particular topic… about a space which is mantained outside corporations and their own particular political interests…
I decided to keep up with mine, to subjectivize myself towards the action of self-writing…
There’s been a lot of things I’ve been meaning to write, but today i will share something simple:

Several weeks ago, me alongside Oto Duarte, recorded some Harsh Noise, Electronic, drums and objects jam. The original goal is to make a track for a compilation of noisy tracks around the punk cosmology.
It was plenty fun. The real challenge is to make the actual track… We decided to make it cut-up-ish, in the style of the Harsh Noise trend around late 90s early 2000s.

Either way, I decided to make some experiments with those recordings, running them through several max patches I’ve been coding over the course of the last months. In this particular example I’m using a multichannel 2d sampler using the object mc.2d.wave~,
It lets me to use phasors (some sort of sawtooth wave used mainly for linear control) to control either the playback speed and where the sound is being played. The MC portion of the patch is being used to control the phase and (a)synchronization of each playhead (represented by the orange markers that travel over the waveform)
I have control of their pitch as well as their position on the sound file.
The patch is heavily based on this tutorial.

I only really implemented some bpatchers in order to make the mc part a little more pleasant to the eye and easier to perform with.

The recording I’m about to drop was the first try of an audio file of the rehearsal in my system.

Pedro Ramírez · Hellish.mp3

I liked how massive it is, the slow progression towards maximum intensity, the stereo-field which was completely automated…
The feedback squeal at the beggining, due to the multichannel spatialization makes a really well starting point for an introduction to the piece. The electronics in general are favored by this stereophonic travels.
Oto’s screams pitched down sub-harmonically (due to the harmonic deviation of the mc objects) made me think of the maximalist chaos and confusion of Florian Hecker compositions of the early 2000s, my mental image of his “Sun Pandaemonium”… a multitude of events traveling across the listener’s head. The name “Hellish” comes from this and a hint to “Sheer Hellish Miasma” by Kevin Drumm.

It’s a kind of tribute on the work of Carl Stone, a composer known for his extensive use of the 2d.wave~ object.
I discovered his work last year and have been obsessed with it’s simplicity and effectiveness… Full compositions unfold starting from only several seconds of audio. A journey. A self-explanatory art piece…

As of today, I already finished one candidate, I will upload it soon I guess…
Sorry for my choppy english… I’m lazy today.

Last week I spoke with Sergio about blogs… We shared perspectives and he showed me both his personal blog as well as an archival of local punk records (link here) I’ve been thinking a lot about this particular topic… about a space which is mantained outside corporations and their own particular political interests… I decided to keep up with mine, to subjectivize myself towards the action of self-writing… There’s been a lot of things I’ve been meaning to write, but today i will share something simple: Several weeks ago, me alongside Oto Duarte, recorded some Harsh Noise, Electronic, drums and objects jam. Yesterday I was sharing with friends and found myself in a room. The same room I was partying 5 years ago.
At that time, halfway through my fine art studies I was filled with hope: I wanted to apply to an exchange program abroad, the comic book editorial with our friends was just starting out and my then-active bands were at it’s peak of creativity.
I keep thinking about the years after these moments, where I stood still in front of everything, frozen. I couldn’t get anything done, nothing but small sketches and crooked artistic masturbation that led nowhere.

Anyways, I now make publicy available my first short comic in about 5 years after a deep struggle with myself trying to discover what I really like.
As everything described on this blog, I don’t care whether it’s good or not. My mood has a vector these days with only one direction and it’s to create loads of work. Nevertheless I am more than open to any comments, criticism, things I should do better or whatever the readers find appropiate to say about my work.
I share the comic in this fancy 3d render because the software I use offers it and actually looks pretty similar to the actual printed one. And as I’m paying for the software, better use the tools they offer hehe
The title is a reference from a Derek Bailey’s song on the Aida record. Actually the shirt of the guy in the cover says Aida as well.

Things to do next time:

Try to figure out a more straight forward narrative. I come from an art comic world and to be honest I’ve been way more interested in the visual part of the drawings than the stories themselves. In this one I’ve found myself struggling with the end. It was extremely difficult to make a shocking end without making a reminiscence of Junju Ito’s work lol. Also as the reader may already noticed, the speech bubbles are empty. I really couldn’t figure out what to fit in but on the other hand I enjoy the suggestion that the characters are talking.

Kali Malone -The Sacrificial Code

Jon Collin - From a Petrified Forest

Kim Gordon - No Home Record

Liturgy - H.A.Q.Q.

Michael Morley - We are here because of you (2018)

Sickness - I Have Become the Disease that Made Me. (2002)

Joya del harsh noise norteamericano.

Death Kneel - Adaptive Emotional Use

Oren Ambarchi, Mark Fell, Will Guthrie y Sam Shalabi - OGLON DAY

It’s been a long time since I publish something in here, but I would like to keep
things moving. Since I don’t record my music that much I think it could be interesting
to share about videos and audio that has been recorded from my live shows:

This one was made by Luminaria Vespertina, which is conformed by Wilson Lozano on his Go-Pro camera.
Actually there are a several videos of this date, some with better quality than others.

This video got a got general impression of how the concert sounded but I personally loved the last minute recorded by Juan Manuel Jaramillo:
(warning: Loud volume video)

I think it captured the high level volume of the excellent sound system in Matik-Matik.

On the technical side of things, I’m really enjoying the stutter pedal programming I did on my Axoloti-driven pedal.
It’s the metal box in the right, with the knobs and the footswitches

Since I got that board, around 2016 after my trip to Germany, I was really interested into programming my own stutter, granular and other
buffer-modification effects but never actually got it to work out. Recently, after exploring Max/Msp again, finally understood typical applications for buffer and made myself a stutter pedal
with Ring Modulation :)

This was another concert of mine recorded last week in which I was invited sporadically to the “Taller de Alto Desempleo” concert sessions organized by my friend Daniel Piedrahita in his art-studio in Rat Trap.
One of the conditions of the concerts is to play music at moderate levels of volume, just because his atelier is in a residential area and it’s not acoustically prepared for loud concerts.
My take on this challenge was to play music on a Bose Soundlink+ system, in mono, and use the built-in iPhone. I really liked the quality of the recording although the details of the sounds out of my phone were not captured.

The apps I used for this concert were mainly Droneo and a File Player running in AUM and Ripplemaker running on my iPhone.
That week I was exploring a the possibilities of Droneo, and thinking about Just Intonation and other tuning systems. I really like that feature but I’m only on my way to learn to use it properly yet.

It’s been a long time since I publish something in here, but I would like to keep things moving.
Architecture is frozen music” Wolfgang von Goethe

Playlist:

Allan Kaprow - How to make a Happening

Christian Marclay - Record Without a Cover

Mike Kelley - The Peristaltic Airwaves

Mugre - Minuto de Dios

Malcolm Middleton & David Shirley - The Story

Joseph Beuys - Ja Ja Ja Ne Ne Ne

Martin Kippenberger - Ja, Ja, Ja, Nee, Nee, Nee (Für Die Jugend)

Mark Leckey - Soundtrack for GreenScreenRefrigerator 2010

Anne Imhof, Cast of Faust - Suicide is Painless

Elkin Calderón, Adriana García Galán - Soy Rebelde

Bruce Nauman - Thank You
